p31 Bakunawa by kkoorime p31 Bakunawa by kkoorime
One of my favorite illustrations from my children's storybook, Bakit Naglaho ang Buwan? (translates to “Why has the moon disappeared?”, my thesis output)

The book is about moon eaters: creatures from Philippine Lower Mythology that are said to devour the moon, causing what we now know as an eclipse.

This kind of moon eater is called Bakunawa.

I love the scale of the moon, it is like a dragon base of fish. Very beautiful. The background is sky right? Nice background :aww:

Eeh, there's no moon here. ^^;

The Bakunawa's appearance is described as a serpent, or a shark, or a dragon-like fish. :)

It's viewed from the top, so below is supposed to be a city. I was in a hurry, so I just went with some random abstract brushes. :XD: The circles are city lights.

Hm, fish must play an important part in Filipino mythology. Either that or people are really hungry for some sushi.

I really love the colors in this one, Rime-chan.

Actually, it's one of the lesser known. My thesis was meant to introduce it to children, so they can appreciate it alongside foreign myths and stories. :meow:

On some versions, the Bakunawa is more serpent-looking. I followed the texts that says it looks like a dragon-like fish or a shark with winged appendages.

Thank you so much, Pam! :iconwarmfuzzyattackplz: I'm glad you're loving this moon eater baby of mine. :meow:

I remember my friend telling me that my work reminds her of Naraku's monsties. :XD:
