Rurouni Kenshin: Manslayer

Description

I originally wanted to use “First Scar” as the title, but the background texture made it look bloodier than intended, so I figured that “Manslayer” is more appropriate. It’s just funny, I realize, because I placed the title beside the Japanese text of RK. So what’s that, Wanderer Kenshin Manslayer?! WHUT.

Anyway, this is the second version of this artwork. The changes were mostly on the background flowers because it was the last thing that I worked on, and I was in serious need of sleep at that time, so I didn’t put much thought in it. Now, the OC side of me told me to fix it before I submit it on dA. ^^; I feel the need to mention this because the first version is just as important. It was my contest entry for SM Cinema and UP AME’s Rurouni Kenshin FanArt Contest. I was one of the winners and up to now, I’m still high and happy about it. I was given a figurine of Shishio Makoto and 2 tickets for the advance screening of the live action movie here in the Philippines that was shown the night after the event. Sc#%#$^%^$r#%#%!!! I WON! (Thank you, SM and UP AME!!!)

And can I just say that the movie was AWESOME?!!! :squee:

It has that Rurouni Kenshin thing in it that I can’t describe. It was epic. The cast was lovable. It was action bliss! :bounce:

It made me love this artwork more because my reference was a movie still of Takeru Sato, and I did this with the thought of wanting to watch the movie. I've honestly thought of just editing an old fanart, but then I really want to see the movie premiere, I told myself that this fanart will show all my love for Kenshin. Knowing that I've worked hard to have the tickets makes the artwork and the movie all the more special. And I’m telling you, it did not disappoint. ♡

RK aside, I am also happy with this one because I haven’t tried serious semi/realism in a long while. You’ll see in my gallery that my realisms were all traditionally hand-drawn, and if I’m not mistaken, this is only my second try to make a digital one. It seems that my hobby of looking at tutorials and staring carefully at my favorite artists’ works have paid off because it somehow got applied here and it turned out decent… in my opinion. I think I want to pursue this style, so let’s just see what feedback will I get from this. :)
